Below are some frequently asked questions and answers about our iRODS instances.
Q: Help, I cannot connect to ArchvPROD, it gives SSL_HANDSHAKE_ERROR error
A: You probably are using a machine that is not managed by WUR, it will then not have the WUR root certificate. In that case follow the guide in the WUR support portal to install it. If you do have a WUR managed machine, contact us to check it out.
A Alternatively, if you are using conda or aother way of doing python virtual environments you might be overriding your systems default certicifates and not seeing the correct root certificate anymore. You might try export SSL_CERT_FILE=/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt to fix it temporarily, or ask your rpeferred LLM how to fix this permanently in your specific situation.
Q: Help, I am trying to download a file but I get a REPLICA_IS_BEING_STAGED or error!
A: You are trying to download a file from the tape archive. This means that the tape robot first needs to fetch the file from the physical tape before you can download it from iRODS. After some time try again, and it will work. See here for more information
Q: I tried installing icommands in my WSL and I get an error: Depends: libssl1.1 but it is not installable
A: This sometimes happens when trying to install WSL with ubuntu24. In a WSL with ubuntu 22 this problem does not occur.
Q: I tried to upload a file. It seemed to have failed so I tried again, but now I get a HIERARCHY_ERROR.
A: The uploaded file might be corrupted, contact us to fix this file.
Q: I tried to upload a file. It doesn't allow me to upload a file
A: It might be that you are running into filename restrictions. Ask the administrator of your iRODS instance what the restrictions are. On the ArchvPROD machine it is limited to these characters: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ1234567890!-_.*() +~@#$%^&{}|:<>?`=[];,"€
